Greg Trooper

Saturday, November 1, 2008 7:30 p.m.
Troubadour and Singer-Songwriter

In a review of his live album 'Between A House And A Hard Place', music critic Barry Mazor said that Trooper "sings with a clarity of purpose and a variety of effect that few in the acoustic world match." Billboard magazine has called him "an artist of considerable insight and passion." Nashville music critic Robert K. Oermann has said Trooper's "songs and delivery grab you by the throat."  Fans know a voice of grit and experience singing songs in which they recognize themselves. Trooper's music feels equally informed by Memphis soul, Greenwich Village folk and Nashville twang.  His songs have been recorded by Vince Gill, Steve Earle, Billy Bragg and Robert Earl Keen, among others.

SPRING SERIES

Bryan Bowers
March 2009  Exact date not yet firm
American Folk Music

Over three decades, Bryan has been to the autoharp what Earl Scruggs has been to the five-string banjo.  The quality of his performance and uniqueness of his creativity have won him induction into Frets Magazine's First Gallery of the Greats alongside other luminaries, such as Chet Atkins, David Grisman, Stephan Grappelli, Itzhak Perlman, and Tony Rice.  In 1993, Bryan was inducted into the Autoharp Hall of Fame where he joined other legendary performers including Maybelle Carter, Kilby Snow, and Sara Carter.

A Washington Times review described a Bryan Bowers concert by reporting that: "...This man makes more music from an Autoharp than you can imagine from a 12-string guitar and a harpsichord combined. He has more stage presence and charisma than any stage performer in recent memory."

People Magazine had this to say:  "Bowers is widely regarded as the leading virtuoso on the autoharp... Bowers also has distinct gifts as a singer and songwriter."

Guy Davis
Saturday, April 18, 2009 7:30 p.m.
The Blues

Whether Guy Davis is appearing on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” or nationally syndicated radio programs such as Garrison Keillor’s, “A Prairie Home Campanion”, “Mountain Stage” or David Dye’s,“World Café”., in front of 15,000 people on the Main Stage of a major festival, or teaching an intimate gathering of students at a Music Camp, Guy feels the instinctive desire to give each listener his ‘all’.

Like the best early bluesmen, Guy Davis is, at heart, a storyteller.  A master at setting intimate, richly nuanced tales to stomping acoustic blues backing, often with folky accompaniment from mandolin, banjo, and accordion, he helped revitalize the state of country blues in the 1990s with a string of critically acclaimed albums for Red House Records.
