Edgar Allen Poe Festival
Target Date: January 19, 2009
Cooperate with the Island Library, Historic Main Street Merchants, Bed and Breakfasts, Hotels and the Island Roxy to provide a weekend of dramatic readings, film screenings and merchandising to entertain and educate participants.
Schedule: During the three-day weekend, federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King.
Possible Program - Film Orientation: The Internet Movie Database lists 189 movies that were derived from Poe stories, poems or titles of his works. There are bound to be many that could be shown during a Poe Festival. Perhaps CCA could arrange to have Poe films shows on Saturday January 17 and Sunday January 18, 2009.
Possible Program - Dramatic Orientation: A grant might support dramatic readings of Poe’s works by accomplished performers. Perhaps we could engage some of the Bed and Breakfasts in Town to serve as host sites for the readings. A B&B might become "The Raven House" or the "House of Usher" or the Cask of Amontillado" for an evening.
Education Orientation: The Island Library might be a site for a few public lectures on Poe’s life and works.
