CCA News – September 2008 
 
It’s September! The kids are back in school, sunset comes a 
bit earlier, sweaters are appearing on store shelves – and 
the Arts calendar for Chincoteague Island is full of new 
events. Check out the Chincoteague Cultural Alliance 
website at www.chincoteagueculturalalliance.org for 
additional details and an updated schedule. Here’s a taste 
of what’s happening this month.  
 
Music at the Dock – Saturday, September 6 
Come out to Robert Reed Downtown Park on Saturday, 
September 6 at 12:30 pm for a free concert by the Celtic 
Islanders. Take a break in your day, bring a chair or 
blanket and enjoy some fresh air and lively music. (Note 
time change from previous newsletter.)  
 
Plein Air Paint Out, Reception, Exhibition and Sale – 
September 12-13 
Watch more than 40 artists as they branch out across 
Assateague and Chincoteague and capture a variety of images 
with their artistic vision. The ‘plein air’ painting takes 
place Friday and Saturday while the Exhibit, Reception and 
Sale is held from 6:00 – 10:00 pm on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 
the Comfort Suites on Main Street. Come and meet the 
artists and find that perfect piece of art to grace the 
walls of your home or office.  
 
2nd Saturday Art Stroll – Saturday, September 13  
Before or after the Art sale, visit CCA member shops, 
galleries and museums as part of the 2nd Saturday Art 
Stroll. Special guest artists this month include painters, 
beadmakers, metalsmiths, soapmakers, potters, fiber 
artists, authors, musicians and more. Pick up an InfoMap at 
CCA member locations as well as local lodging, restaurants 
and the Chincoteague Chamber visitor center. Or visit the

CCA Acoustic Music Concert series kicks off with Blue 
Rhythm Boys - Sept. 20 
The popular Acoustic Music Concert series begins another 
season with the first of three Fall concerts on Saturday, 
September 20, 7:30pm at the Chincoteague Senior Center. The 
Blue Rhythm Boys perform their unique blend of blues and 
swing with great vocals and guitar. Tickets are $15 in 
advance or $18 at the door; student tickets are $5. Save 
with a season ticket to all three concerts for $40. As 
always, tickets can be purchased in person at Egret Moon 
Artworks, H&H Pharmacy, Island Cottage Collection, 
Psychotronic Books and Sundial Books or online via the CCA 
website. Season tickets are available online, by mail and 
at the first concert. 
 
Music at the Dock - Saturday, September 27 
Celebrate the last Music at the Dock concert for the season 
with Hemlock Hollow at the Robert Reed Downtown Park on 
Saturday, September 27 at 1:00pm. Hemlock Hollow plays a 
foot-tapping set of original and favorite folk songs on 
mandolin and guitar. Bring your blanket or chair, sit back 
and enjoy a festive fall afternoon bayside.  
 
Beyond CCA . . . Other cultural and artistic events of note 
 
 
Chincoteague Island Film Club Fall Films 
The Film Club begins their fall series with The Band’s 
Visit on September 4 at 8:00pm at the Island Roxy. 
Additional films in the series include The Visitor on 
October 2, Babette’s Feast on November 6 and My Best Friend 
on December 4. Membership for the Fall series is $25 per 
person or individual tickets can be purchased at the door 
for $7.50 for non-members.  
 
Chincoteague Natural History Association sponsors First 
Friday lecture series  
On Friday, September 5 at 7 pm at the Herbert Bateman 
Visitor Center, Dick Roberts, the resident bird-bander, 
will be giving a talk about the work of the Wildlife Refuge 
and the bird populations that migrate through this area. 
The lecture is free and there is no booth fee for cars 
coming onto the Refuge after 6pm. On October 3 Myrna 
Cherrix will be giving another of her talks about 
Assateague Village and Lighthouse History. Again, 7 pm in 
the Visitor Center. For more information,

Looking ahead to October, mark your calendars for the 2nd 
Saturday Art Stroll on Oct. 11 and the CCA Acoustic Music 
Concert with North Sea Gas on Oct. 4. The Chincoteague 
Oyster Festival also takes place October 11 and the annual 
Chincoteague Chili and Chowder Cook-off is Oct. 18.
