The Band's Visit
A gentle and heartfelt tale of kindness overcoming suspicion. The setting is a desolate Israeli desert town whose inhabitants are surprised when eight Egyptian men in military dress step off the cross-county bus. Alternatively funny, sad, and hopeful, the film is a moving story about what can happen when you open yourself up to strangers.

Babette's Feast
This 1987 Oscar winner, taken from an Isak Dinesen story, is set in the second half of the 19th century on Denmark’s remote Jutland coast, in a small fishing village. Two sisters, dedicated to their father and his church, turn down their suitors to care for him. Thirty-five years later, Babette, a French refugee seeking help, appeals to the sisters who take her in. To commemorate what would have been their father’s 100th birthday, Babette prepares a spectacular feast, the preparation and execution of which reveals Babette’s secrete and the nature of her sustaining glory. (Suggestion: do not attend this film on an empty stomach!)
