There was a frost warning in the Virginia mountains last weekend but, here on the coast, the weather is perfect for walking the beach or strolling the streets of the town. There is still plenty to do on ChincoteagueIsland this fall!
Thanks to everyone who attended the North Sea Gas concert last Saturday! The Scottish trio played to a sell-out crowd and comments about the performance were overwhelmingly positive.
The Chincoteague Oyster Festival, sponsored by the Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce, takes play on Saturday, October 11 from 10:00am - 4:00pm at the Maddox Family Campground. This event is held to promote the seafood industry and mark the arrival of the oyster season. For tickets, contact the Chincoteague Chamber at 757.336.6161 or www.chincoteaguechamber.com.
October 11 is also the date for the CCA 2nd Saturday Art Stoll. Begin the festivities with the Show and Tell at the Oyster and MaritimeMuseum from 3:00 – 5:00pm. From 6:00 – 10:00pm, enjoy demonstrations and exhibitions by local artists, meet authors at book-signings, taste gourmet treats and listen to live music at participating shops and galleries throughout the town. Sunday October 12, the Oyster and Maritime Museumholds its annual Open House from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. featuring local historians David Snead, Dino Johnson and George Young and hammer dulicmer music by Bill Troxler.
Bring your taste buds to the Chili and Chowder Cook-Off, sponsored by the Historic Main Street Merchants Association, on Saturday, October 18 in RobertReedDowntownPark. Enjoy a variety of chili and chowders and vote for your favorite. The event also includes arts & crafts, games for the kids and more.
Not sure what shops and galleries are open? Members of CCA and the Historic Main Street Merchants are working together to promote ChincoteagueIsland’s ‘Extended Season.’ Look for the CIE logo in the window of shops that are open beyond the traditional summer season. Looking toward November . . .
The final CCA Acoustic Music Concert for the Fall takes place Saturday, November 1 at 8:00pm (note new time) with singer/songwriter, Greg Trooper. Billboard magazine has called him "an artist of considerable insight and passion." Tickets are available in advance online or at Egret Moon Artworks, H&H Pharmacy, Island Cottage Collection, Psychotronic Music and Sundial Books. Advance purchase is encouraged as the last two concerts sold out!
CCA is also sponsoring the 2nd Native American Festival on Saturday, November 8 from noon – 5:00pm. The day will include performances of Native American dancing, singing and flute playing and Native American storytelling. See demonstrations of Native American technology including flint knapping and beading. Food vendors include Buffalo Burgers and fry bread. Activities for kids are also on the schedule.
